John Parker

John Parker - Managing Director

John Parker is the Managing Director of the Academy of Leadership and Management. He is a highly experienced HRD professional and executive coach.

His experience in delivering coaching, mentoring, leadership and management development courses goes back as far as 1987. Since then, he has designed and run courses that have won 3 UK and 7 Scottish National Training Awards. He is a Fellow of both ILM and CMI and holds an MSc Training. In 2005, was appointed Visiting Professor at Edinburgh Napier University Business School.

John’s style is to use a combination of executive coaching and practical discussion aimed at achieving impacts in and for businesses through their leaders. He challenges people to examine new ideas, look at things from different angles and, above all, he supports them in achieving the outcomes that they need and desire for themselves.

He was conferred with a Visiting Professorship by Edinburgh Napier University Business School in 2005 for this work and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management, the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute for Enterprise and Entrepreneurs.

John has completed work for ILM in the field of accreditation. He was closely consulted on the creation of the ILM Level 7 Leadership and Management qualifications and piloted them through a public sector contract, leading to significant feedback and development of the process.

He was also commissioned to author and advise on the development of the ILM Level 7 standards in coaching and mentoring and in coaching supervision. He was the principal author of the supervision standards and adviser and second author for the coaching and mentoring ones.

John works with a range of clients including:

  3. SMEs, mid corporates and public sector organisations

 His work has included creating and delivering a number of national projects, including:

  • Premier Adviser Programme: the accreditation process for all publicly funded business advisers across Scotland for Scottish Enterprise, with over 950 graduates;
  • Raising Our Game, a professional development programme for leaders in communities and the built environment, for the Homes and Communities Agency.
