Knowledge and resources - FAQs

In addition to our learning journey, studying with the Academy: quick guide, why study with us and Course Compendium pages, we have included a few FAQs below that may be helpful to you.

If you have any questions or issues you would like to discuss with us then please do get in touch with us and we will get in touch with you.

Who do I contact if I have any questions?

For qualification and further programme information please contact info@academylm.co.uk or call 0845 890 2549.

If you are currently enrolled on a course, your Learner Manager is your first point of contact for course queries. S/he is contactable at learnermanager@academylm.co.uk or by calling 0845 890 2549 (International +44 141 611 7640).

Your Learner Manager will be able with most queries you have but, if not, will pass them on to the appropriate person and manage the process of response. Your Learner Manager will also support you with your assignment submissions, providing reminders where appropriate.

Who do I contact when I need support during my course?

Extensive tutor/coach support is available for all of our learners. You will be allocated a personal tutor/coach, who will meet with you on regular basis during the programme and can be contacted via phone or email, and will be happy to assist with any questions you have, and support you throughout, and in many cases, beyond the programme.

I am unable to log into i-Academy, what should I do?

Have you manually typed in your username and password and cut and pasted it? If you are still unable to log in, there could be two reasons:

  • Which website browser that you are using? Firefox and Chrome work best as browsers, so try using a different browser.
  • Check that you have cookies are enabled in your browser. Two cookies are used by the i-Academy site. The essential one is the session cookie, usually called MoodleSession. You must allow this cookie into your browser to provide continuity and maintain your login from page to page. When you log out or close the browser this cookie is destroyed (in your browser and on the server). The other cookie is purely for convenience, usually called something like MOODLEID. It just remembers your username within the browser. This means when you return to this site the username field on the login page will be already filled out for you. It is safe to refuse this cookie – you will just have to retype your username every time you log in.

If you continue to experience problems, please let your Learner Manager know. They will either be able to advise or will forward your issue to our technical support team.

What should I do if I am unable to get on to the Zoom/MS Teams/Skype session for my tutorials?

Call our offices on 0845 890 2549. Our team will direct you appropriately.

What should I do if I need to cancel a tutorial?

You are expected to provide your coach with 72 hours’ notice if you wish to change the date of a tutorial, unless there are extenuating circumstances. If this notice is not provided, we cannot guarantee that another tutorial can be re-scheduled in advance of the next one on your programme timetable. If you need to cancel a tutorial, please contact your Learner Manager.

What is covered during tutorials?

What is covered will be directly related to your learning programme. In general:

  • The learning outcomes and assessment criteria for the unit being covered
  • Ways in which the course content and learning fit into your work
  • Key issues relating to the unit you are working on
  • Personal learning outcomes for each unit
  • Organisational impact objectives for each unit
  • Reflecting on the learning and activities you have completed so far, including the updates in your assignments
  • Reviewing the progress of your progress
  • Discussing any professional or personal challenges that you are facing
  • Considering what else you think you need to focus on during each unit

Will I be provided with all the learning materials required to complete the course?

Yes. We have excellent in-house workbooks, tutorial videos, eBooks, and other learning resources, hosted on our virtual learning platform. We also provide live and online tutorials, group workshops and active learning sessions.

What should I do if I need help with my written work?

Contact your coach by email in the first instance or speak to them during one of your tutorials

What happens if my work fails?

We do not use the ‘f’ word! If your work does not meet one or more of the assessment criteria, your work will be referred. We will provide you with feedback as to what you have not yet done to meet the required standard, along with clear instructions on how to do so.

What can I do if I think my assessment is unfair?

The Academy of Leadership & Management and ILM both have policies on fair assessment. If you think your assessment is unfair, you should institute the Appeals process by contacting your Learner Manager in the first instance.

What do I do if I need help with access to assessment because I have a disability or other condition?

Contact your Learner Manager or coach. You can speak to either of them in total confidence. The Academy of Leadership & Management has helped a number of people to access assessments where there has been a problem that generates a barrier to learning and / or assessment.
