Programme Overview

The Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship is designed for existing or aspiring coaches who work with individuals and teams from any sector, with the intention of empowering them to enhance their professional performance.

This qualification will equip the learner with the skills and knowledge needed to develop a sound foundation in coaching principles and techniques and provide the organisation with excellent coaching resources.

The programme is funded through the Apprenticeship Levy – which is available to organisations in England, UK only >find out more. The cost of the Coaching Professional Level 5 Apprenticeship is currently £5,000.

Who is it for?

This apprenticeship is for those who want to coach either as their main occupation want to use the skills of coaching in their existing role.

They may already have formal or informal coaching experience, or aspire to bring coaching into their work place by developing their people development skills and enhancing their approaches to leadership.

Who is eligible?

No formal qualifications are required for this apprenticeship. However, it is expected that learners will be able to show some experience of coaching, albeit possibly in an informal setting.

How can the programme link to qualifications?

Upon successful completion of the programme the learner will be awarded the Level 5 Coaching Professional Apprenticeship Certificate.

It is also possible for the learner to gain an ILM Level 5 or 7 Coaching & Mentoring Diploma qualification with limited additional work. If you are interested, please ask us for more details at your initial meeting.

Duration

12 month programme and 2 month End Point Assessment. 14 months in total.

Attendance Method

Online delivery (MS Teams/Zoom), featuring workshops, executive coaching and individual supervision sessions. In-person workshops can be arranged for groups as can group supervision sessions.

We can also provide our individual learners opportunities to join with other learners in group sessions. These can be workshops, action learning tutorials and group supervision sessions. If you are interested in this option please let us know.

How is the programme delivered?

This apprenticeship is a 12 month learning programme followed by 2 months in End Point Assessment.

Coaching professional apprentices complete a formal learning journey which includes the following:

Coaching Practice

If you are undertaking the Level 5 Apprenticeship and the ILM 5 Diploma you will coach 4-9 people for up to 54 hours. These hours are increased to 60 with the same number of coachees for the ILM 7 Diploma.

How is the programme structured?

The course is delivered through a blended approach, incorporating workshops, online learning, group and individual coaching, work-based learning, observation and assessments, as well as regular line manager reviews. Learners meet regularly with their tutor and are supported in their journey by a dedicated Learner Manager.

A typical month on the programme will include:

  • Workshop work
  • Group or individual supervision
  • Work based learning
  • Observations and assessments
  • Coaching Craft – Monthly CPD for qualified coaches and learners

Learners will also participate in regular line manager reviews. They will meet regularly with their tutor and are supported in their journey by a dedicated Learner Manager.

Prior to programme start, learners will complete the following activities:

  • Attend an information session, providing an oversight of the key elements of the programme.
  • Onboard using our Maytas LMS – application form, eligibility questionnaire and
  • Complete an initial skills scan assessment against the standard’s knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • Verify status of existing qualifications, including English and Maths. If the employee does not have a Level 2 qualifications in these subjects, they can agree with their employer to forego the need to obtain them. We will discuss this with the employer and learner during onboarding.
  • Leaner, employer and the Academy approve the apprenticeship agreement and training plan for the programme.

How is the programme assessed?

The programme is assessed through a combination of observations, written assignments and a portfolio of evidence. This portfolio will contain your coaching practice – coaching log, reflective reviews from your coaching meetings with your 7-9 coachees. At the end, learners complete an End Point Assessment, incorporating three elements:

  • Observation of coaching delivered by the learner
  • A knowledge test
  • An interview, based on a portfolio of evidence of their coaching
