Those who have served in the Armed Forces possess an abundance of transferable skills that make them stand out in the job market. Many of the skills developed during service appeal to employers who are looking for applicants with a strong work ethic. Those returning to civilian life can have many and varied career opportunities for this reason.
Ex-military professionals are widely known for their self-discipline and resilience; making them reliable employees who are dedicated, organised and punctual in a corporate setting. They harbour strong communication and interpersonal skills – gained through past experience of taking and conveying orders. Ability to work well in a highly pressured team environment is another plus which can be attractive to many employers.
These skills are relatable to a long list of disciplines and occupations, some of which include the corporate, government, arts and security sectors.
Some of the most valuable skills that transfer well to ex-military recruitment include:
- Teamwork
- Leadership
- Communication
- Problem solving
- Resourcefulness
- Dedication
- Resilience
