Our Apprenticeship programmes are delivered through a blended approach, tailored to your organisation’s needs.
We provide fully online programmes, in-person programmes (e.g. running workshop sessions in our clients offices) and a blend of the two. We tailor our delivery method to the apprentices and employers specific requirements.
Our L3 team leader and L5 operational manager apprenticeship programmes have an accreditation pathway to the Level 3 and Level 5 CMI Certificate qualifications in leadership and management.
The ILM Certificate in Effective Coaching & Mentoring can be achieved by undertaking a little extra work whilst undertaking our L5 coaching professional apprenticeship programme.
Those who undertake our Senior Leader Level 7 apprenticeship programme will also receive an Extended Level 7 CMI Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership when they complete the full programme.
Our apprenticeship programmes are delivered online and in-person through:
- workshops
- personal tutoring / coaching sessions
- small group discussions
- action learning sets
- web based forums
- workbooks, CMI Management Direct – online learning library with further reading, video and audio
- off and on the job learning – undertaking business projects at operational and strategic levels in your organisation
- creating a work based portfolio of evidence which is aligned to the duties and KSBs of the standard
- regular self-evaluation and discussions with tutor / line managers
- you will undertake CMI assessments, keep a regular reflective journal, create proposals for change and improvement and make presentations that will reflect what you have learned and put into practice whilst on the programme.
These are blended to create a learning journey to suit all styles.
Our apprenticeship programmes vary in length, from 15 – 24 months. Apprentices (FTE) are expected to dedicate around 6 hours per week whilst undertaking the apprenticeship and the CMI qualifications. You can find more detail on the specific structure and activities of each apprenticeship standard on the image menu below.
Generally speaking, our apprenticeship programmes have the following weekly and monthly structure and activities.
Typical monthly apprenticeship programme structure
- Group/Individual Workshop
- Independent study, self directed learning and group work
- 1-2-1 online tuition / coaching session – usually held monthly
- Reflective journal, CMI assignments
- Off and on the job hours – undertaking research and projects in the workplace
Typical weekly activities
Group/Individual Workshop
These sessions will deliver course content, provide opportunity for interactive learning and expert tuition as well as guest speakers from your organisation where appropriate. Where the programme is delivered to a group and include opportunities for debate, discussion and peer learning.
Independent study
During these allocated weeks learners will be required to work on their ILM workbooks and formal written assignments as well as compiling evidence for their skills/behaviours portfolio.
Individual 1-2-1 tuition, action and accountability sessions
This will be a safe, confidential space for the learner to ask questions follow up questions from the workshop session, set course reading and assignments.
We would recommend that line managers are involved at regular intervals as part of the employees ongoing job appraisal and to measure and report on outcomes being achieved both on the programme and on the job. The tutor will also ask the learner about access to their Off The Job training time allocation, as well as how they are using this designated time.
Group work
We will encourage the learner to work in small groups as they progress. Although not timetabled, the self-directed sessions will support the learner to apply their learning and building their network, connections across your organisation and their personal brand.
Small group project
Apprentices may work in a small group on a project that will be sponsored by a more senior manager. This will be looking at developing results for your organisation. We will meet with the apprentices and line managers to discuss potential projects within departments and/or across departments to support your strategic objectives to embrace new and innovative ways of working to improve service delivery and the operations of the business. The learners will be asked to present the results to the senior management team once they have delivered it and evaluated the results.
Off the Job hours
Learners will also complete a regular Off the Jobs timesheet on our Maytas LMS, which will be a record of how they are applying the learning in practice. The journal entries are linked to the knowledge, skills and behaviours that will be used to build the learners portfolio and for End Point Assessment.
Apprentices are required to complete a number of off the job hours whilst they are undertaking an apprenticeship programme. Practically this will consist of the learner undertaking new tasks, new projects, carrying out procedures and processes in the new ways to achieve better results.
How is the programme assessed?
The standards and qualifications are assessed through a combination of written CMI/ILM assignments and observations and reflective journals. There are assessments for every learning module and additional End Point Assessment.
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, the underlying qualification and the Off the Job hours requirement for the standard, apprentices will have a Gateway meeting with their line manager and tutor/coach. Following this, the apprentice will have around 2-3 months to prepare for End Point Assessment.
The requirements for EPA are different for each standard. There are further details about Gateway and End Point Assessment on each of the apprenticeship standards pages.
